Occupation

The work lives of Norfolkians are born out of the city’s many diverse industries–the military, government, shipping, development, retail, restaurant, and the like. Whether it’s having been head-hunted or having completed a term in the military and moved into the civilian workforce or having started up one’s own business in Norfolk, Norfologists take advantage of the city’s most attractive quality to a young professional… And that is this:

Right now, at this moment in Norfolk’s history and development, one can make a distinct and sizeable impact with their work.

The most important thing to know about Norfolk in context of living and working here successfully is that it is on the cusp. It is the urban core of one of the largest metropolitan areas in America, and yet it is only now finding a clear identity and really stepping up to the plate with its transportation and urban plans.

Now is the time when young professionals get to be big fish fast. Our voices are more easily heard. Our work is more easily recognized. And the opportunities are more readily available. We, the Norfologists, are in the midst of this urban and cultural renaissance, and it is thrilling.
