In your own words, how would you define the term “Norfology”?

“Norfology” is simply an entrepreneurial community of shared cultures and lifestyles, born out of the need for individuals to live comfortable lives at a desired level in Norfolk, Virginia.

And how would you define a “Norfologist?”

A “Norfologist” is an entrepreneur who recognizes the “Norfology” movement in Norfolk, Virginia and becomes part of the positive growth solution.

Describe the work that you do.

I am the President and Chief Executive Officer of Sabrosa Foods Inc. (SFI), and I’m in charge of SFI’s day-to-day business operations. I’m responsible for hiring and training new employees, maintaining financial reports, tracking inventory, overseeing production & quality assurance, scheduling, attending trade shows, generating sales, and maintaining timely correspondences with suppliers & buyers.

What makes your business/organization unique in Norfolk and Hampton Roads?

Sabrosa Foods is a unique Norfolk- and Hampton Roads-based business because we blend fresh, local, farm-grown vegetables and herbs for healthy, all-natural, preservative-free, value-added gourmet condiments.

Why did you chose Norfolk for your business?

I chose Norfolk as home base for Sabrosa Foods Inc. because of the central location to farms and access to the year-round farmers market. In addition, the positive outlook of significant retail, commercial, and tourism activity enhances the city’s economic diversity, making Norfolk attractive to any new or start-up business.

What incentives, amenities, infrastructure, opportunities, etc. does working in Norfolk offer your business?

Norfolk infrastructure is set up to accommodate business relationships from ease of transportation to relaxing lodging–the city has it all. Norfolk is a great place to develop, foster and maintain business relationships.

Since working in Norfolk, how have you seen your business grow?

Since working in Norfolk I have seen Sabrosa Foods Inc.’s brand grow in both demand and popularity, in turn, adding to the bottom line.

If you were speaking with a fellow entrepreneur who was looking to relocate their business, what would you tell them about your experiences in Norfolk to entice them to do business here?

What do you personally enjoy about living and working in Norfolk?

Working in Norfolk’s vibrant cosmopolitan center has many cultural offerings, from historic churches to cultural cruises to gospel festivals. The cultural experience in Norfolk is thriving and inviting, and it can be explored through a range of attractions, events, shopping, dining, and festivals. Boasting a population of 234,000, Norfolk is one of Virginia’s largest cities. Norfolk’s long military and transportation history is another reason it is on the map. The Norfolk Naval Base, the world’s largest naval base, and the Norfolk Southern Railway, are both at the heart of this history. Norfolk is a great place to start a business or work.

What do you see in Norfolk’s future that excites you?

In reviewing the Economic Development Plan for the City of Norfolk, I was excited to see many commercial and residential projects scheduled to be funded which will help solidify the infrastructure, allowing for even more growth and in turn creating more jobs and business opportunities.
