You can barely throw a textbook in Norfolk without hitting a university.

We can talk later about why you want to come down here and start hucking text books around. For now, let’s focus on the six colleges and universities that make Norfolk an ideal place not just to find a job, but to continue your education to find an even better job.

(Yeah, we’ve got big plans for you here in Norfolk.)

There’s Old Dominion University, with its remolded campus, hopping University Village, top Division 1 basketball teams, exciting literary festival, and world-class degree programs.

Tidewater Community College has a sleek, brand-new campus in the heart of Downtown. Given that TCC ranks second in the nation for most students using GI bill, there’s no shortage of hard working students with existing degrees from the school of life.

Since 1935, Norfolk State University has been a proud historically black college. The school is good but—ohhh, man!—should you hear (and see) their marching band.

For the K through 12 set, Norfolk has many fine schools for kids to learn that throwing textbooks is not appropriate. Find out all about the Norfolk Public Schools system by clicking here.

The Williams School, Saint Patrick Catholic School and Norfolk Academy are the class of the private schools. The pride of the public school system is the Governor’s School for the Arts, which selectively admits students into its theater, dance, and arts programs.
