If a visitor were to ask a Norfologist, “Which way is the water?”, unless that Norfolk resident has got some seriously funky finger joints, there’s no possible way to point in the direction of all the water at once.
In Norfolk, water is everywhere.
It’s surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay, one of the world’s best natural harbors. The city sits at the mouth of the James, Elizabeth, and Nansemond rivers. Plus, the beach, surf, and fun of the Atlantic Ocean are just 18 miles away.
Norfolk is a low and level city, making it ideal for both recreational and getting-from-here-to-there cycling. If you live and work in Norfolk, it’s highly likely you can get by without owning a car.
In Norfolk the weather is pretty close to perfect three seasons of the year. The National Weather Service agrees, ranking Norfolk’s climate as “one of the most desirable in the nation.”
And as for summer, well, summer just gives us an excuse to drink more sweet tea and to sit outside and enjoy the breezes coming off all that water.
